The Butter Battle

Well, I haven't posted anything too offensive lately. How about if we talk about butter?

The short story is that I am mostly Weston A. Price thinking and not so much China Study thinking. That means I lean toward eating a more traditional diet and that I don't think our family needs to avoid meat and dairy products altogether (if they are from healthy sources and as unaltered as possible).

This is a handy chart from Food Babe that I saw on Mercola's site. He has a great article on butter there. What do you usually use? Do you think you could move over a column and purchase a better butter? It makes a difference to your body. And remember, we send messages with our money!

My Personally Disturbing Vaccine Experience

I apologize in advance that this will not be a thorough overview of vaccinations, nor will it fully explain what our family thinks about vaccines and what we are choosing to give and not give our children. I'm just too tired and the topic is too exhaustive (and exhausting?!).

Please let me briefly state that The Lawyer and I have changed our minds about vaccines in the past twelve years and that we have sometimes been slow to put that into practice. We still have questions but have found some great books and blogs to be helpful.

In general, our policy now is not to vaccinate our children at all until they are at least one year old. This has been a huge point of contention with pediatricians and is the main reason why, after living here for two years, we have visited at least 5 pediatricians, searching for someone with whom we felt we could have a knowledgable conversation and who would really be an allie with us for our children.

When I recently took M for his 3 year well check he hadn't had any vaccines at all. The doctor and I discussed the vaccines that are "recommended" that he have by this time, and the doctor gave me the top 3 vaccines he felt were most important for M to have. After talking this through for a few minutes, I consented to two vaccines.

That evening, I was out getting groceries when The Lawyer texted me that M was throwing up. It seemed so odd to me, catching me completely off guard. He hadn't seemed sick at all to me that day. After the vaccination we had played at the park, come home for lunch, he had rested for several hours (he took an unusually long nap that day), and I hadn't noticed abnormal behavior that afternoon.

When I got home, I found out that M had been sick again and was now running a fever. This continued into the next morning, when I called the doctor to inform him that I was certain this was a reaction to the DTaP vaccine. None of our other children were sick at all and M was clearly not himself.

I felt a wave of panic passing over me as I recalled SO MANY things that I have read about vaccine-induced injuries and death. The thought that I had willingly put this sickness into my precious child grieved me. I know too much. And yet I thought we were healthy and strong and that we would be the ones who wouldn't be affected.

Our good doctor called us in so that he could check on M (even though the nurse insisted this couldn't possibly be connected to the vaccine received the prior day). He acknowledged that clearly, this was a(n unusual) reaction to the DTaP. The CDC handout given to us the day before listed vomiting as one of the "mild problems (common)" in about 1 child in 50. M's fever was listed under "moderate problems (uncommon)" as effecting about 1 child out of 16, 000). The "severe problems (very rare)" were "serious allergic reaction" and "several other severe problems. . . including long-term seizures, coma, permanent brain damage."

It's the last line that angers me: "These are so rare it is hard to tell if they are caused by the vaccine."

M had a COMMON reaction and yet the doctor's office seemed surprised and even denied that his lethargy, fever, and vomiting were related to his vaccine. Am I to think that they would more readily admit that his vaccine could cause a coma and seizures?! Somehow, they disassociate vaccines from their (known) side effects and risks.

After watching M's body struggle for several days, I am resolved not to give him another DTaP. The doctor agrees. (Though I think the doctor has to list this as an allergic reaction in order to exempt M from future DTaP shots- for things like college.) I am even more hesitant than before to give ANY vaccinations. Perhaps this was just the warning sign I needed.

For more information, here is a great BLOG (which I LOVED because one pediatrician we visited pushed aggressively for me to have our whole family immunized for LOTS of things in order to create a bubble around G (the baby). He used the herd mentality thinking and tried to strong-arm me into vaccines I was firmly against. Here is a great video- a bit more of the political side to all this.

This is very good. Good thoughts, well expressed. Touching. Unnerving. Critical.

Is It Really Food?

So... what do you think? If you haven't watched/read anything distressing recently about our health and our food, then this is a good link (that won't take much time but may just disgust you).

http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7420280n

"Food should be pleasurable," they say. And so they enhance and add and take away and when we buy things in boxes and cans and packages we may really be getting much more than we bargained for. I knew that "natural" flavorings was a questionable label, but I can't believe all that goes on behind the grocery store scene. (As a side note, L (7) went grocery shopping with me yesterday and we were both sad that Kroger has moved the breakfast foods in with some of the bread. I've not been able to stand the smell of a grocery store bread isle for years- it just smells really wrong to me- and apparently, now it bothers L, too. She commented on the weird smell and we both hightailed it out of there!)

This IS why I love JuicePlus+ and why I advocate healthy, whole-food eating. (Not that I trust the whole foods at the grocery, either!) If we eat better, we want to eat better. We can LOVE and crave healthy, whole foods! There is something alluring about deep green avocados and spikey yellow pineapples and deep crimson raspberries. They taste fantastic! And we are satisfied. We won't overdose or be undernourished with these kinds of whole food choices. JuicePlus+ is great because it doesn't use flavorings to make it palatable- it is really just the whole foods. I'm so thankful for the integrity of this company that truly wants people to be well- not just to consume more.

Are you eating lots of whole foods?

To the Very Nice Doctor I Saw Today

To the Very Nice Doctor I Saw Today:
Thank you for your concern and interest in my children. I appreciated that you looked my children in the eyes and talked to them during their well-check appointment. I was glad that you weren't as distracted as I was by an 18 month old driving a truck around the floor while the 8 year old regaled you with the stories behind his various mishaps, stitches, etc. You were polite, thorough, and personable. I liked that a lot. As a bonus, we thought your office was well stocked with toys and books and the decor was the best I've ever seen in a medical practice.

You may not have noticed, however, that I was quite nervous, even sweating, as we talked about a few things. I have strong convictions about medicine and food; I'm probably not the kind of mom you want in your office. Yet, I didn't say much to you. You see, I don't like conflict and I really don't like to go against authority figures (you!). On a few issues I did raise my questions but you didn't seem to believe that I could know what I was talking about. I was tense. And we didn't agree. And I'm not sure I can come back into your office knowing how I will feel during each visit when we disagree.

You want my children to drink more cow's milk. They don't drink any right now. You are concerned for their calcium. I'm not; they eat lots of vegetables and I think calcium is more bioavailable in whole food than it is in dairy products. You think they should use calcium supplements. I will not use calcium supplements because they have been shown to actually leach calcium from the very bones they are supposed to be protecting.

You think we should fully vaccinate all of our children and ought to come in as soon as possible to push them through the process. I expressed that we did not want to proceed with the full prescribed battery of vaccines. There were a few vaccines I mentioned not wanting to give to our children. You told me that they were safe vaccines and that I ought to hedge my bets by protecting my children as soon as possible.

We have never given our family flu shots. You think we should. I expressed that the flu shot may not even protect against the flu strain that will be passed around this year. While you did agree that this may be true, you think it is still much safer to get the vaccine than to have the flu ("for a week"). If I had come to the appointment better prepared, I may have shared with you that  "the truth is that flu shots, even in the best case the industry can come up with, really only prevent the flu in 1.5 out of 100 adults." You said it was still better to get the vaccine. I said that we are putting our money and effort into nutrition and prevention.

Today I didn't come to your office armed for combat. I'm just a mom, after all, trying to do what I think is best for our family, seeking wisdom from the Lord and following my husband's leadership.  In so many ways I was pleased with our experience today. I'm not sure, however, that I can feel good about continuing a partnership with you when our values and decisions are easily dismissed and I am hesitant to divulge too much information about what we are/are not doing. In truth, I'm a little scared of you (even though you were very nice). What will you do when I fail to follow your advise?  What will I do when I need a pediatrician and can't find anyone closer/available? Maybe I'll pluck up my courage and gather up my children and compile my resources and visit you again.

A Husband and King

Here is an excerpt from last month's cover story in the Washington Post Magazine. It was written by Ellen McCarthy and called "Marriage: What Every Couple Should Know." I read the article on the website for The Counsel for Biblican Manhood and Womanhood :

The writer asks, "What if the truth was that you didn't marry the wrong person? What if you just didn't know how to be married?"

"The article then goes on to share the results of a decade long study that showed that [A]ll couples-those who are happily married into their rocking chair years and those who divorce before they hit their fifth anniversary-disagree more or less the same amount. [The study] found that [all couples] argue about the same subjects-money, kids, time, and sex chief among them-and that for the average couple, 69 percent of those disagreements will be irreconcilable. A morning bird and a night owl won't ever fully eliminate their differences; nor will a spendthrift and a penny pincher. What distinguished satisfied couples from the miserable ones, [they] found, was how creatively and constructively they managed those differences.... If every couple has about the same number of disagreements, people who leave marriage because of irreconcilable differences are likely to find themselves arguing just as much in their next marriage.... What [these researchers] were finding undermined the basic principle driving romantic relationships in America: "That it's about finding the right person. That if you find your soulmate, everything will be fine.... [T]hat's the big myth."

This is why arranged marriages can be happy marriages (good news for our kids!). This is why there is hope in the most hopeless looking situations- because Christ can transform hearts and lives and marriages to reveal the glory of His gospel. I must confess, I also found it reassuring to know that the kinds of differences The Lawyer and I have are common differences.

And, since it is Monday (again? already?!), these thoughts lead right into thanksgiving:
791) Twelve years under our belts.
792) He brings me chocolate. I make him pie and dinner every night (dinner every night but not pie!).
793) He does the dishes nearly every night. And I remember when he NEVER did dishes.
794) I see him as king of this humble domain.
795) He sits with his Apple on his lap; I sit with my Apple on mine.
796) We walk through the woods at night in the deep darkness and the children laugh and play (so great is their trust in his strength and protection.)
797) He encourages me to face challenges and do right things and to rest.
798) We had another church "adventure" on Sunday. So thankful to hear the Gospel and to sing hymns of praise!
799) He leads a little family circle of prayer at night.
800) He wiggles teeth and punches boys (it's okay- really!) and tickles them all until they scream.
801) He comes back to bed in the early morning and holds his arm out to me and I can rest again.
802) For the good plan of the Father that marriage should be a mystery and yet reflect Christ and the Church.

The Salary Reality

Today B sent me this from Instapundit:

"LAW SCHOOL GRADUATES face a bimodal salary curve. We used to call this a “brassiere curve” back when i was in college, but that’s probably politically incorrect now. But you’ve got two humps — a lower one, where the salaries for most law school graduates cluster, and a much higher one, centered around what those who go to big firms make. The important thing, in calculating the risk/return ratio of time and money on law school, is figuring out which of the two you’re likely to end up in.

As Above The Law’s Elie Mystal notes, “A lot of wanna-be lawyers claim that they don’t even want to make $160K. Fine. But understand the curve. If you don’t make $160K, it’s not likely that you’ll make just a little bit less — say, $120K. It’s not likely that you’ll make the average; it’s not even likely that you’ll make the median. If you don’t win the $160K lottery, chances are you’ll be clumped into the left-hand side of the curve, earning somewhere between $30,000 and $60,000 a year. That’s the kind of pay that a lot of people can get without three years of post-graduate education and six figures of debt.”"

He then asked, "why didn't anyone tell me this before law school?" Ha. I think that's exactly the kind of information the law schools don't want you to know. And we didn't really even know anyone who was a practicing attorney that we could ask these kinds of questions of and hear what real life attorney life is like. We were pretty clueless four years ago when we started this venture, but we did know that B had a desire to pursue law and God was opening doors so that we could move forward. Maybe we should have done a bit more "research" (doesn't everyone research everything on the internet?).

It's a bit like this new venture. I don't know anything (really) about this job with the Attorney General. I don't know what to expect. But, again, I'm trusting that the Lord will take care of us through my husband and that He has been preparing the way and will guide us faithfully. Just as B needed to walk through the doors that were connected with his dream of being involved in government law, he now has new paths opened to him. We keep walking (and I have to trust a lot because I don't have time for much "research" these days).

Our house is officially on the market and we are starting to pack boxes. If the house sells and we can close by the end of August, we'll move with B. That's incredibly quick! If that crazy scenario doesn't play out, I will stay in Lynchburg with the kids until the house does sell. There are SO many houses on the market right now. We know many people who have had houses on the market for a year or more. That is definitely not what I want to think about. I know that the Lord is good, regardless. And He has been gracious with us as we are learning. Because of all we have lived through in the past four years, we are absolutely committed not to incur further debt and we value our family relationships as infinitely precious. Maybe the salary isn't what we hoped. Maybe this journey is going to involve more moves. Maybe we'll keep downsizing. Maybe we'll be separated.

When there is so much we don't know, I'm glad that we serve a God who isn't pulsed by a bimodal salary curve. He graciously continues His care for our family. We praise Him!

Safe Births

With labor and delivery on my mind, it's no wonder I was drawn to this article about a healthier rate of C-sections within a Navajo community.

Even though we have chosen to have home births (with 3 of our 4 children), I don't necessarily think that it is for everyone. I do, however, find our country's Cesarean rates alarming. This is another area where our so-called health care is lacking. When we looked at the world statistics, B and I knew that we would rather not be part of the U.S. trends.

On Sick Care

I'm weary of the talk of "healthcare" when people are really talking about SICK care. Americans aren't very healthy and our system called "healthcare" is really set up to care for those who are sick. Prevention and wellness are paid for out of pocket. For those who are paying for wellness, they are paying a steep price indeed, because not only are we paying for our own wellness, we are forced to pay for other's illness.

I sound mean, but I do mean this in the most socially responsible, merciful way. People are better off if they are WELL. Providing sick care does not mean more people will be well. I'm concerned with wellness.

Politics is my husband's hobby, not mine. He just tells me the things I need to know. I did, however, read THIS ARTICLE on the "HealthCare" situation and it made sense to me. (Health Care Arbitrage)

Birthing Options

Wow. I just watched The Business of Being Born last night. . . and I would that pregnant women everywhere would have this information!

I felt the film gave an excellent summation of obstetrical and midwifery care in this century. Because Ricki Lake was involved in the film, I hesitated to watch it. I was pleasantly surprised to see many midwives, ob/gyns and hear the history of births in our country, as well as see statistics and trends. It wasn't quite what I expected, but in very good ways.

There are cartoons that had me laughing in the film, as well as birth scenes that had me quietly crying on our couch. (I am pregnant, but I probably would have cried, regardless!) Even having had four births (1 hospital, 1 at home with an Ob, 2 at home with midwives), I found myself excited and agitated and passionate about this "business of being born."

What miracle! What amazing, agonizing pain and splendid JOY. During the labor scenes I said to B, "It [homebirth] doesn't look so glamorous. I'm not sure I would want to do that." Of course, that was followed by delivery and bonding, which caused me to quickly add, "Okay! I can do THAT again!"

Oh, what an adventure.

More on Motherhood and Keeping a Home

I just finished reading an excellent book on "The Remarkable Influence of Visionary Daughters on the Kingdom of God" by Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin (So Much More). The were ages 19 and 17 when they wrote the book, and I found their perspective both interesting and challenging. Because this relates so well with other recent posts, I am including some important passages from the book.

"Being a housewife is an illegitimate profession. . . The choice to serve and be protected and plan towards being a family-maker is a choice that shouldn't be. The heart of radical feminism is to change that." (Vivian Gornick, University of Illinois, The Daily Illini.)

"What a traditional woman did that made her home warm and alive was not dusting and laundry. . . Her real secret was that she identified herself with her home, [and] . . . it is illuminating to think about what happened when things went right. Then her affection was in the soft sofa cushions, clean linens, and good meals; her memory in well-stocked storeroom cabinets and the pantry; her intelligence in the order and healthfulness of her home; her good humor in its light and air." (Cherly Mendelson, Home Comforts: The Art and Science of Keeping House.)

Referring to wifely duties : "I can understand how this might exhaust the mind, but I cannot imagine how it could narrow it. . . How can it be a large career to tell other people's children about [arithmetic], and a small career to tell one's own children about the universe? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone? No; a woman's function is laborious because it is gigantic, not because it is minute. I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task; I will never pity her for its smallness." (G.K.. Chesterton)

"Though the Proverbs 31 woman's work was praised int he gates, it did not take place in the gates, but in the home. It was the woman's husband who took his place in the gate (Prov. 31:23), and the implication is that his success and influence was largely due to his wife's being faithful to her calling rather than trying to usurp his." (Anna Sofia Botkin and Elizabeth Botkin, So Much More, page 123)

The Bitter Truth about Artificial Sweetners

Once again, I am making it known that we believe that God designed good food for us to eat; food that heals us, nourishes us, and protects us from disease. Unfortunately, most Americans do not eat food as God designed it. We reach for packaged, processed, genetically modified, sprayed, injected, painted substitutes.

When we started making changes in our family diet, we started small. Often, it is easier to ADD something than it is to take a lot of things out. This is when we ADDED JuicePlus, the wisest choice I believe we have made regarding our family's nutrition. Then, I started watching labels to take OUT the biggest offenders. We stopped eating "foods" with hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil. We stopped eating "foods" made with high fructose corn syrup. Then we looked for items with enriched flour and decided to eliminate them, since they were making us POOR in health. Colors and numbers were the next to go, and about that time I read a powerful book called, "Excitotoxins, the Taste that Kills" by Russell Blaylock.

Wow. This book explains the history of MSG and other food additives that are termed "excitotoxins." Basically, they are toxic to us because of the effect that they have on neurons in the brain.

Yesterday, I watched Sweet Misery on youtube at a friend's recommendation. Here, I heard Mr. Blaylock explain neurotoxins. Not only that, but other scientists and doctors talked about the effects of these types of toxins on our bodies. Aspartame is devastatingly implicated in this small documentary. If you are curious about aspartame and how the food industry and FDA have conspired to keep it on the shelves, this is 51 minutes you will want to watch. If you want more information on aspartame, I have several articles that I can email.

Preparing For the Flu

Have you heard tremors of the FLU?

Families around us are getting sick and moms are asking me what to do to protect themselves this flu season. There are great alternatives to shots that can boost your family's immune systems and help them ward off and fight through sickness.

This article is the best place to start. It's titled Fuzzy Math. If you are wondering about the risk/benefit ratio of being vaccinated for the flu... this should clear things up. Mainstream media is tricky to figure out and this puts the numbers out very clearly.

We are preparing for the winter season, too. For us, this means continuing to eat our JuicePlus+. It has been proven in several studies to boost the immune system. (One of my favorite studies was done on law students in FL. Those who were eating JP+ were sick less often than those not eating JP+ and when they did get sick, it didn't last as long as the sickness did in the other students.) I know that we are protecting ourselves every day we eat well and we do even better with JuicePlus+. We are continuing to change our eating habits to include ever more fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Protecting our health starts by feeding our cells properly! We keep extra JuicePlus+ on hand, too, so that if we are starting to sense something coming on (or see it going around) we can double up.

Our family has also been using essential oils more and more. I am excited about the antiviral properties found in the plants God created! I love using these natural oils instead of harsh chemical cleaners (which are toxic to my family!) and am only just scratching the surface on understanding the protective and healing power of oils. Here is just a little bit of information on Thieves from my friend, Jaime:

"The use of essential oils for medicinal purposes dates back thousands of years and more recently, through scientific study, we know the power of essential oils on airborne pathogens.

During the 14th century, the plague spread across Europe. It was estimated to have killed a third of Europe's population while spreading to Asia and the Middle East. It was also known as the "Black Death" because one of the symptoms, acral necrosis, caused skin to blacken from sub dermal hemorrhages. So terrorizing was the disease that it killed within a week, usually 3-4 days, wiping out entire families. “The pestilence was so contagious that those who touched the dead or the sick were immediately affected themselves and died".

During this time, there was a group of four thieves who were able to not only go near the dying and dead, but were able to touch them. The thieves robbed the bodies of the inflicted and did not become ill, themselves. They were caught in 1413 in Marseilles, France. When they were tried, the magistrate offered leniency if they exposed their secret to resisting the infection. The thieves disclosed a concoction of aromatic herbs, including cloves and rosemary, which they rubbed on their hands, ears, and temples in order to avoid contracting the plague.

This recipe was recreated in Young Living’s blend, Thieves®, which contains the oils of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary. It is highly antimicrobial. When tested at Weber State University, it was found to have a 99.96% kill rate against airborne bacteria.

We have an entire arsenal of Thieves essential oil-based products to keep ourselves and our environment healthy such as Thieves Essential Oil, Thieves Cough Drops, Thieves Mouthwash, Thieves Spray, Thieves Hand Soap, Thieves Hand Sanitizer, Thieves Hand Wipes, and Thieves Household Cleaner. In addition, our new supplement, INNER DEFENSE contains the essential oils used in our Thieves blend plus Thyme and Citronella. This is a very powerful supplement for health and wellness support.

Use Thieves in your washing machine, dishwasher, wash down counters and bathrooms, diffuse in your environment, put on cotton balls and stick them in your air ducts at home or in your car. Add lemon essential oil to increase your protection against airborne pathogens."

Flu shots don't make sense to me, but availing myself of the medicines God has created DOES. I am consistently amazed by His creation.

Interesting Reading

There have been some interesting articles showing up in my email lately. I thought I would share some with you:

If you are curious about probiotics, this article is a basic overview, relevant to products on the market today. My note, however, is that you can find LOTS of friendly bacteria in kefir.

Here is an article about a mother in MI who is in trouble for watching her friend's children before school each day. It's relevant to me because I've talked to other moms about this over the years. The definition of "daycare" can be sticky.

If you have heard me talk about nutrition and disease prevention, then you won't be surprised by this article. I find it sad that this makes it sound that eating two fruits/day is acceptable. I know it may be overwhelming to hear that we really need 9-13 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. . . but it is TRUE that our bodies need FUEL and God has given us the correct fuel IF only we will eat it. My note: eat MORE than everyone else!

A Healthy Reason for Alarm

I have been disturbed by our president's healthcare bill. Even though I don't watch t.v. or read the newspaper, or even follow news on the computer, I know enough to be very concerned. The best information I have found has come from Focus on the Family from Liberty Counsel. Because I know this is confusing to most of us and also because I think it is difficult to find trustworthy sources of information, I am sharing this from a Liberty Counsel email:

"We recently saw an overview of the healthcare bill being debated in Congress (HR 3200). We found the overview so alarming that we doubted its accuracy, so the staff in our D.C. office compared it to the voluminous bill.

What they found astonished us so much that we had to share it with you today. You can read our updated and revised overview of HR 3200 and you will be alarmed, too.

You can also read the text of HR 3200 - directly from a government website - to see for yourself how dangerous this government healthcare takeover would be.

Of course, it is not enough to be alarmed and do nothing! Congress is going on recess soon, but you can be assured that the liberals behind this bill will not be at rest. They will hold public meetings and try to convince their constituents that government healthcare is the only option.

It is time to visit the Senators and Representatives in their local offices in your state. Take copies of our document on HR 3200 with you so they can understand your concerns.

Read more about the consequences of this bill in Matt Barber's article "Is There a Co-Pay with Forced Abortion?" Barber is Director of Cultural Affairs for Liberty Counsel and Associate Dean with Liberty University School of Law.

Read more about the specific threats this health care plan poses on our Liberty Counsel Group Discussion Board. But here are a few examples:

• Sect. 123, Pg 30 of HC bill - THERE WILL BE A GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.

• Sect. 142, Pg 42 of HC Bill - The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your benefits for you. You have no choice!

• Sect. 152, Pg 50-51 in HC bill - HC will be provided to ALL non US citizens, illegal or otherwise

• Sect. 163, Pg 58-59 beginning at line 5 of HC Bill - Government will have real-time access to individual’s finances & a National ID Health care card will be issued!

• Sect. 163, Pg 59, lines 21-24 of HC Bill—Government will have direct access to your banks accounts for electronic funds transfer

• Sect. 312, Pg 145, Line 15-17 of HC Bill—An Employer MUST auto-enroll employees into public option plan. NO CHOICE.

• Sect. 401.59B, Pg 167, Lines 18-23—ANY individual who does not have acceptable HC, according to Government, will be taxed 2.5% of income.

• Sect.59B, Pg 170 Lines, 1—Any NONRESIDENT Alien is exempt from individual taxes. (Americans will pay for alien healthcare.)

• Sect. 1121, Pg 239, Line 14-24 of HC Bill—Government will limit and reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors, low income and poor are the ones affected.

• Sect. 1121, Pg 241, Line 6-8 of HC Bill—Doctors, it does not matter what specialty you have; you’ll all be paid the same. “Service categories established under this paragraph shall apply without regard to the specialty of the physician furnishing the service.”

• Sect. 1122, Pg 253, Line 10-18—Government “validates relative value unit’s” (sets value of Doctor’s) time, professional judgment, methods etc. Literally, the value of humans.

• Sect. 1145, Pg 272—Treatment of certain cancer hospitals – Cancer patients and their treatment are open to rationing!

• Sect. 1156, Pg 317, Line 13-20—“PROHIBITION on Physician Ownership or Investment.” Government tells Doctors what/how much they can own.

• Sect. 1156, Pg 317-318, Lines 21-25, 1-3—“PROHIBITION on Expansion of Facility Capacity.” Government is mandating hospitals cannot expand (“number of operating rooms or beds”).

• Sect. 1177, Pg 354—Government will RESTRICT enrollment of Special needs people! “Extension of Authority of Special Needs Plans to Restrict Enrollment.”

Can I Choose My Child's Healthcare?

I'm not one to write political blogs (my husband is vastly better suited to that), and I really have other things to attend to (though everyone is resting now). However, this link B just sent me is positively disturbing to us as parents. . .

Parents who would seek alternative treatments if our children had cancer. Parents who believe that the Lord made our bodies to heal themselves, that He gave food for sustainence and healing, that He provided plants and herbs and other means of promoting wellness.

Parents who must claim religious exemption so that our children won't be taken away from us if the state deems they did not advance their education sufficiently this year. Parents who believe that our children are better educated classically, at home, than by the state.

Parents who question vaccinations.

Parents who support breastfeeding, eating locally, buying and selling and growing locally. Parents who detest greed and fraud of manufactureres, industry, and marketing.

Parents who believe that keeping things simple is not very easy, but is still worthwhile.

Parents who pine for our children's salvation and desire their affections to be set on Christ above all else.

Parents who love their children fiercely. Passionately. Unashamedly.

Imperfect parents, yes. But is our government better qualified to care for our children?
