With M and his big blue blanket on my lap during church, and with T leaning sleepily on my right arm, I passed a pen to O on Sunday and asked him to take some notes for me on his bulletin.
"Write tithing shows obedience and love," I whispered to O.
"What?" he asked.
Thinking he didn't hear me, I repeated my whispered instruction. He looked at me with confusion and asked again, "what?" Once more, I repeated the pastor's point to him in a more deliberate whisper.
After church, I asked to see the notes he took. I couldn't help but laugh when I read the first one:
"Tie his shoes obedience and love."
